Well Woman Care
Women have unique needs when it comes to health care. As a woman, our clinic is focused on your needs and follow the guidelines set forth by Health Resources and Services Administration. The purpose of the Women’s Preventive Services Guideline is to improve women’s health across the lifespan by identifying preventive services and screenings to use in clinical practice.
Breast Cancer Screening
The current recommendation is for average risk women the first mammogram should be between the ages of 40 and 50 years of age. The mammogram should occur biennially and as frequently as annually. Screening should continue through at least the age of 74 and age alone should not be the basis to discontinue the screening. Women with increased risk recommendations differ drastically. Our clinic would be happy to discuss your unique needs.
Cervical Cancer Screening
For women between the ages of 21-29 years of age the current recommendation is every 3 years. Women ages 30-65 should be screened every 5 years with cytology and human papillomavirus or cytology alone every 3 years. Woman at average risk should not be screened more than every 3 years.
